Divine Mercy Sunday is a special feast day in the Catholic Church, celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. Divine Mercy Sunday is a day devoted to the infinite mercy of Jesus, as revealed to St. Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun and mystic. Jesus appeared to her in the 1930s and gave her messages emphasizing the importance of trusting in His mercy, being merciful to others, and praying for the whole world. The celebration became official in the Church in the year 2000, when Pope John Paul II canonized St. Faustina and declared that the Second Sunday of Easter would be called Divine Mercy Sunday.
